This all began with a love of classical music; all those instruments on the stage battling together in harmony.
We thought it would be fun to talk to some of the players, hang out in rehearsals, get a sense of what it’s like to pull a symphony off. This then led to a curiosity about who is writing for the orchestra today. We don’t get to hear much new music (it’s not easy hiring 100 players to learn and perform your work); so we put out the brief to young composers around the country to write a 3-minute piece that REWRITES the Proms; a new variation on Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance for instance (coming from a team of LSO composers); Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty in a short (by grandson of the late great Sergei Prokofiev). What a response – and with such variation. Enjoy...
