Sophie Pope is an English-born composer who is studying at the Royal Northern College of Music under David Horne. Her music combines the aspects of rhythm and texture and makes effective use of modes and folk techniques in a contemporary idiom. She has used such techniques to write a range of pieces; recent performances include the BBC Singers, Brand New Orchestra and RNCM New Ensemble. A set of songs were performed in May after a collaboration with a poet from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Next year she will study at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart as part of a year long Erasmus-exchange.
