Dubbed 'the Keith Richards of the violin' for her incendiary live performances, Sophie Solomon is an internationally acclaimed musician and composer. A gifted violinist since the age of 2, Sophie gained a First Class History and Russian degree from Oxford University before DJing jungle in Moscow and travelling widely in Eastern Europe.
The leading klezmer violinist of her generation, Sophie was a founder member of groundbreaking fusionists, Oi Va Voi, while Solomon & Socalled¹s HipHopKhasene, a nineteenth-century Jewish wedding hip-hop style, won the German Record Critics¹ Album of the Year Award 2004.
Sophie¹s acclaimed debut solo disc, Poison Sweet Madeira (Decca 2006), features Ralph Fiennes, KT Tunstall and Richard Hawley, while her diverse guest appearances include Rufus Wainwright, Killing Joke and the London Symphony Orchestra. Sophie writes music for film, tv and theatre, - her arrangements were heard in the critically acclaimed revival of Fiddler on the Roof on the West End. She teaches klezmer music all over the world, most recently the Royal Academy of Music and Weimar Conservatoire. She is currently recording her second solo disc with legendary producer, Marius de Vries.
